Our Sunday started with a lazy pancake breakfast at a nice bakery in Santa Monica and after that we headed to the beach. The Santa Monica Beach is great, really big with huge waves but also very crowded. We took a stroll along the water and on the pier. Rather touristy but still worth a visit. Right next to the pier is Venice Beach where we saw people doing lots of artistic moves on rings, ropes, etc. Very entertaining and some people made it look like a very easy task but I didn't even really manage to get the rings in motion.
We took a walk along the promenade where you also can rent and ride bikes or inline skates. That surely would've been fun but it was simply too hot to do that so we decided that it was time to go swimming. It was so cool, huge waves that even lifted me off my feet several times and the water wasn't cold at all. We spent most of the afternoon there and had dinner and bubble tea at Urth Caffè later, a recommendation of a friend, which was expensive but very good.
We had to postpone the Hollywood sign which we had planned for today to tomorrow as it already was too dark when we left and went to the Griffith Observatory instead. The view of the city at night from up there is breathtaking and it makes you realise how big LA really is.
Now we're back home and about to sleep as we're heading to San Diego tomorrow and have to get up early.
