Today it was time to leave LA but before we did that, we went up to the Griffith Observatory again. I didn't want to go without seeing the Hollywood sign and the view from up there was splendid. My travel guide had recommended a different spot but this was much better. Also it was nice to see the city from above by day. It's amazing how big it is, I wasn't able to spot where it ended.
After that we went for a late breakfast/early dinner to Le Pain Quotidien in Santa Monica where I had a delicious homemade strawberry lemonade, quite a treat.
In the afternoon we left for San Diego which took us longer than expected. The view was nice though, the Freeway led us through mountains and along the sea. Also on our way out of LA we passed LAX and made a plane spotting stop somewhere near the airport. There's a viewing point which allows you to watch the busy airport and the runways.
In San Diego we have rented a room for two days which is quite close to the airport. On the one hand that's cool because you can watch the planes when they're already very low but on the other hand I hope the night'll be okay and it won't be too loud.
As it was already getting dark we only went out for dinner (and a bit of plane spotting at first). Dinner was good and the waitress chatted with us about the game Germany vs. Brasilia tomorrow. It's great to see how enthusiastic the Americans are about the World Cup.
On the downside we saw a rattlesnake warning sign today at a construction site in LA. I kind of knew they existed in Cali but still it's scary to read about it! Also we saw three cockroaches in San Diego in the street (and not that close to our room). It was disgusting, one of them was gigantic, eek!!
