San Diego, Day 11, Tuesday

After a surprisingly good night in the loud apartment (I guess my earplugs helped), we took a walk in Balboa Park which is lovely and where there is free wifi everywhere. We saw lots of fig trees along our walk, quite a pity that it's not autum right now when they are ready to harvest. In the park there's also the museum mile of the city. We didn't have the time to visit any if the museums but it was interesting enough to see them from the outside. It felt like being in Mexico there with the way everything was built (and with the heat!). We had a lovely coffee break there and took a stroll in the greenhouse to see the excotoc plants there. The most funny plants where the mimosas which kind of roll their leaves in when you touch them. Now I know why you call people who are easily offended a mimosa ;-)

After that we headed back to our room to watch the game Germany vs. Brazil but unfortunately the tv wasn't working. My family and several friends kept me updated though. What an amazing match, would've loved to have seen it! Everyone who hears that we are German congratulates us on the result and people are convinced that Germany will win the cup. Let's hope that they're right!

Our next stop was Silver Beach on Coronado Island for a quick dip in the ocean before meeting my friend Lauren who lives close to San Diego. There's an amazing view from the bridge to Coronado Island but sadly no vista point for a foto stop. The beach was lovely and we said our goodbyes to the Pacific for now.

Later we met Lauren who I only knew from twitter so far at Seaport Village where she showed us around. We saw the famous kissing statue that's called "Unconditional Surrender" and also the sailing boat that was the set for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. Later we went to a nice and authentic Mexican restaurant (where i had a Mimosa!) and then sadly had to say goodbye to Lauren. It was so lovely meeting her and spending the afternoon and evening together. After that the walk back to our car led us through the famous Gaslamp District and that was the end of another exciting day.
