Santa Barbara -> Malibu -> Los Angeles, Day 8, Saturday

Today started with a full breakfast made by our landlady Arlene. From her kitchen you can see the mountains, it's wonderful. After breakfast we took a short walk where we saw two humming birds and also several orange trees. In the end I literally had to drag Marco to the car because he and Arlene wouldn't stop chatting and I wanted to go to the beach.

Arlene had recommended Butterfield Beach to us (I hope I remember the name correctly) which proved to be a not so good idea. The beach was very small and not extremely beautiful. We had a bath which was fun (and the water wasn't cold at all!) but afterwards our towels got soaked from a bigger wave as the tide was rising. Also we both got a bit sunburnt which is rather unpleasant, I might have to wear a hat tomorrow.

That was the signal for us to leave Santa Barbara and to go to LA. It was a two hour car ride which was rather uneventful. It's pretty cool though to see the signs at the freeway leading to Los Angeles, you never see that at home! We saw a lovely beach in Malibu which wad a thousand times nicer than the one in Santa Barbara, I need to go back there again one day! At around 7 pm we arrived in Santa Monica where we had booked another room via airbnb. It's all nice and clean and we could even put tge soaked towels into the washing machine here.

After a quick shower I dragged Marco out of the house again and we drove to Hollywood (!!!) via Beverly Hills. The area around the Chinese Theatre really is a weird place, a colourful mix of tourists, homeless people and weirdos, it was quite a show! We took a few pictures at the theatre, spotted several famous names and then went home. Now we're already in bed so that we're well rested for a full day in LA tomorrow.
